These shots were completed for Brian Helgeland's 2015 film 'Legend'.
Tom Hardy was playing both of the Kray twins and as a result had to shoot each scene twice in the role of each character.
Both the foreground 'Reggie' element and the background 'Ronnie' element were shot with eye line guide poles. These had to be removed and a lot of work was done on fixing edges and removing the refracted poles from the champagne flutes etc.
The foreground element was then keyed and despilled and laid over the background element. Subtle grade tweaks and transforms were required to get the two plates to seamlessly match. The cigar smoke from the 'Ronnie' element was then keyed off the background plate and laid over the foreground gangsters.

The background 'Reggie' element had to be soft matted into the middle of the 'Ronnie' plate but this was not as easy as I first thought due to the amount of smoke and atmosphere in the second plate, and because some of the props on the bar had moved from their original position.
The cigar smoke from the foreground element then had to be laid back over Reggie and the chroma green prop which Ronnie had used to hit David Thewlis over the head with had to be painted out and replaced with a smashing glass made up from a number of different elements.
